festivals

I read a wonderful book over the weekend called A Walk Across the Sun by Corban Addison. I LOVED it and will be updating the book page with a full review this evening. The book mentioned the Holi festival in India (pic below), and I remembered reading an article about the best festivals to visit in the world.

Holi and Carnival are my top two.

What about you?

Have a great Monday.

beach weekend

Headed to the beach this weekend with some friends.
I'm just going to take a book and read all day under the sun.
There's nothing like an ocean breeze in your hair.

For those who love Greek yogurt (I'm obsessed!) check out the Chobani and Yogurt Culture Company 'yogurt bars.' I think this trend and I are going to get along very well.

Dream beach bungalows - 1 and 2

A heartwarming career.

What are you up to this weekend?

oh hey there...

 BE BOLD!!

Thanks for the pic Ali! Nothing like a beautiful round table of Repettos,
especially when found at Excelsior in Milan. Such a word traveler she is.

Happy Thursday!

bec's goes to telluride!

Joining us once again, is my good friend Rebecca to tell us about her glorious trip to Telluride. This post is long overdue, but almost perfect timing as you can now see pics from her trip over on her and her hubby's amazing photography blog See Don't Look - and now for her Telluride travel essentials:

So long, hot and humid Tennessee. Hellooooooo, crisp and clear Colorado!

Jeff and I are packing our bags for our first summer vacation as husband and wife, and we couldn’t be more excited!!! In less than a week, we will be Telluride-bound for six days of adventure and relaxation. Have any of you been? I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Telluride twice but this will be J’s first trip.

Nestled at the base of the San Juan Mountains, Telluride is surrounded on three sides by 14,000-foot peaks (and is home to the greatest concentration of “fourteeners” in North America). Needless to say, the hiking is hard. The only way to go is up! Moreover, the town of Telluride sits at 8,750 feet above sea level so altitude sickness is an unfortunate reality for many visitors. That said, we’ll be taking it easy the first couple of days – drinking lots of water, capturing the rugged mountain plateaus and summer wildflowers with our cameras, perusing the independent art galleries, and soaking up the small-town mountain lifestyle that makes Telluride so unique. Once “acclimated,” Jeff has promised me some breathtaking hikes - literally. Thank goodness we’ll have lovely accommodations to return to after a long day on the trails!

Here are my Telluride Travel essentials:

Nikon D800 D-SLR
Because Jeff won’t go anywhere without it!

Water Bottle
For water…and lots of it.

Sunscreen
I like this one…it contains antioxidants and Vitamin E and doesn’t leave a chalky/shiny finish.

Hiking Boots
No, they aren’t the cutest shoes you’ll ever buy, but mid-height hiking boots are mandatory for rocky, uneven terrain.

*editor's note: I swear these are the same ones I bought for Maine last year.
So comfy and stylin' ;)

Hiking Clothes
Lululemon makes my favorite technical athletic apparel. This top is moisture wicking and seamless (no chafing!) and the jacket is lightweight and can be easily packed in your day pack. Layering is a must in mountain climates.

Maxi Dress
This one is casual and summery but still appropriate for Telluride’s gourmet eateries and old-time bars.

Lip Balm
Bobbi is a part-time resident, so many of her products are Telluride-inspired. This balm has SPF (super important for high altitudes) and olive oil and gives your lips a beautiful, natural look.

Trail Mix
As far as I’m concerned, hikes REQUIRE trail snacks. Empty tummies do not equal happy campers.

Thanks for letting us post, B! xx

AMAZING.

Thanks for sharing.

Much love to the Newmans <3

*Becs tell Jeff if he wants to hunt me down for copyright that he knows where to find me...I suggest we hash this issue out over at ABC Kitchen. Thoughts?

nyc moments

Five little hidden gems in NYC.

Monochromatic New Yorkers.

Story of my life - hehe.

If you live in NY, you've undoubtably had a New York moment. One where you shake you head after, say only in New York, and go on with your day. Whether it's sharing a great conversation with an old woman at Forty Carrots (brought together by frozen yogurt), seeing three celebrities (Alec Baldwin anyone?) in one thirty minute walk down to the Lower East Side, or going out for casual drinks with friends and ending up dancing on tables at the Dream Hotel solely because someone knew 'someone' who knew 'someone'. Those moments are too precious/touching/hilarious not to share.

Don't let those moments go to waste. You can share them here with the New York Times and be featured in their Metropolitan Diaries. So for all of my fellow New Yorkers out there - go ahead - let's get published!

See you in a NY minute,

xoxo
