linzer love

A NYC Valentine's Memory:

When I first moved to NY I worked at a small little bakery in SoHo. On Valentine's day they made the most delectable homemade raspberry linzer heart shaped cookies. The cookies were very delicate (made of almond flour) and if one broke or even cracked, we couldn't sell it. Well a lot broke just in the daily doings of our job - oopsies - so I offered to kindly take the broken ones off of their hands (I think I was the cookie's biggest fan.) I just remember walking down West Broadway on a way to meet a friend in Central Park looking around and thinking 'suckas, I've got $18* worth of linzer cookies in this bag for FREE.' Of course I told my friend I would share some linzers with her, truly because that would mean I'd actually have to still have some by the time I reached the park, but oh man...I ate A LOT of linzer cookies on that subway ride. Linzers for lunch. Holla'!

I mean I know they say VDay is all about the love, but really it's all about the linzers.

Make your own with this recipe.

Please share a Valentine's Day tale in the comments below.

Happy VDay.

I truly don't remember how much it costs, I do remember trying to calculate in my mind the total though, as each cookie was $2.75 or something ridiculous. Pic of bakery linzer cookies here

snowy fashion week

These pictures make me remember just how much I love this season, booties, sweaters, furs..oh my! Or really so me, but I think (confession) I'm ready for spring.

Le temps a laissié son manteau
De vent, de froidure et de pluye,
Et s'est vestu de brouderie,
De soleil luyant, cler et beau.

Il n'y a beste ne oyseau,
Qu'en son jargon ne chante ou crie;
Le temps a laissié son manteau.

Rivière, fontaine et ruisseau
Portent, en livree jolie,
Gouttes d'argent d'orfaverie,
Chascun s'abille de nouveau :
Le temps a laissié son manteau.

PS - Who said you have to wear pink on VDay?
More my style.

Do you remember that Sex and the City scene where Miranda and Carrie are out on VDay for dinner and the restaurant is filled with balloons? Well I decided that I need to go there. A friend of mine has friends in town, and we thought it'd be hilarious to suggest a very cheesy restaurant/I mean who doesn't want to dine with hundreds of balloons? So I find out the place is called Raoul's and decide to give them a call to confirm the balloons. Here is how the conversation went:

Me: Hi, yes I was wondering if you have balloons for Valentine's Day?

Raoul's: I'm sorry, what?

Me: Do you put out tons of balloons for Valentine's Day?

Raoul's: Um...sorry say again?
(Mind you he was American so no accent barrier here meaning he probably just thought I was crazy.)

Me: On Valentine's Day does the restaurant do anything special?

Raoul's: Um...

Me: I wanted to know if you had a special menu for Valentine's Day.

Raouls: OH, I'm so sorry. I kept thinking you were asking about decor!
(Little laugh, phew...)

Me (in my mind):  I WAS.

Turns out Raoul's does not fill the restaurant with balloons on Valentine's Day, just so you all know now and can now stop wondering.

They just have a special menu.

There have to be other balloon filled restaurants out there, right?

Here are some other NYC restaurants you saw on the show.

So sweet and hilarious and concerning at the same time.

 Bisous,

B
